THINGS are going bump in the night for one pub landlord who says a ghost has been disturbed by plans for a pub party. The White Hart in Cross is staging a 'medieval party' on July 8 with a full banquet, mock jail, stocks and fancy dress.Posters have gone up which include an image of the hanging Judge Jefferies, who is said to have held court in the 17th century building. But the plans have caused a normally friendly spirit said to haunt the pub to go haywire, according to landlord Nick Randall.Odd goings-on include a chip fat fryer getting hot when not plugged in and a drip tray jumping into the air by itself.Mr Randall said: "Things turn themselves on. Several people have witnessed it. I've physically been pushed twice. I turned around and there was nobody there and I hadn't had anything to drink that night. "Both times it happened at the same spot behind the bar as if someone was squeezing by."Six people witnessed a Guinness drip tray jump six inches in the air with nobody near it."I know several ex-licensees of the pub and it's happened to them too, but things have been getting a lot worse since the posters have come up. It could be that the spirit is one of Judge Jefferies' victims."One of the guests is dressing up as the judge for the night."I don't know if it will cause problems on the night, but what's happened is enough to stop me dressing as the judge. I have to live here."Guests are being asked to dress up for the event which will see barmaids serving traditional banquet fare. Unlucky punters will be put in stocks and have wet sponges and rotten fruit thrown at them. There could also be archery outside and horse and cart rides. Funds raised will go to Bristol Children's Hospital. The party will get under way from about 6pm and seats will cost £14.50.
