Bank holiday health warning to think ahead

The summer puts pressure on healthcare services in North Somerset, and so people are being warned to plan ahead before the next bank holiday.
North Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), which is in charge of healthcare services in the district, is telling people to stock up on medicine and ensure they have their prescriptions well in advance of the bank holiday weekend, from August 25-28.
People are also being told to make use of out-of-hours GP services, and the minor injuries unit in Clevedon, with a warning to only use A&E and 999 for serious and life-threatening emergencies.
The CCG’s clinical chair Dr Mary Backhouse said: “The summer holidays and particularly the bank holiday weekend are always a busy time.
“We’re urging people who have repeat prescriptions to make sure they have enough medication to last the long weekend, when many pharmacies and GP practices will be closed.”
