AN ESTIMATED £5,000 has been raised for charities after an annual sponsored walk around Weston and Uphill.
Around 100 volunteers marched from Weston General Hospital to the Grand Pier to raise money for vital heart-related causes.
The money will be split between the British Heart Foundation and the hospital’s cardiology department.
Organiser Paul Hobbs said he was delighted by the event’s success and hopes it will become a permanent fixture in Weston’s calendar.
He said: “The event went very well. We progressed from last year when we had about 70-80 people take part.
“This walk is going to develop and we hope it establishes itself and gets bigger.
“I’m absolutely delighted and I thank anyone who supported us.”
Businesses from across the region donated prizes for a raffle and the Winter Gardens hosted a medal ceremony for the 100 people who took part.
