A WEATHER warning has been issued across Somerset today with heavy showers and thunderstorms forecast.

Some areas of Somerset have already been battered by rain, with surface water present on a number of roads.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for both North Somerset and Somerset.

Some areas could get up to 30mm of rain in just two or three hours.

A weather station in Cheddar, which has been taking recordings since 2006, has measured 47.2mm of rain today.

The highest daily rain still stands at 50.6mm recorded in September, 2012.

And Steve Carter, who monitors the weather in Blagdon, said 30mm of rain had already fallen in the area.

The weather warning will be in place until 9pm tonight.
