AN after school club could be under threat from closure, unless more cash and volunteers can be found to run it.The club, which is based at the Rock Road Youth Club in Yatton, has been running for about five years and provides activities for children after school until 6pm.Helpers pick up youngsters from the village primary schools and escort them to the centre.A new committee was set up last month in a bid to keep the club afloat, but unless new volunteers and funds are found, its future is in doubt.Committee member and mum of one, Rachael Osborne, said: "We desperately require more volunteers. The group is non-profit making and we have a couple of paid staff, so money is very tight."What we are desperately in need of is volunteers to help us run the sessions and money to help us pay for equipment."The club also runs in the school holidays.Mrs Osborne said: "The club offers support for working families during the holidays."There are a lot of people who would really struggle to find childcare if it didn't exist."It is really important we keep running and hope people will come forward to volunteer."Helpers are also needed to escort the children from school to the club. The helpers receive a fee for giving up their time.Toys and craft equipment are also needed. Anyone who can help in any way should contact 01934 830283.
