Help wanted after dog abandoned

RSPCA inspectors are trying to track down the owner of a dog found abandoned in Cheddar.

The Staffordshire bull terrier, who has been named George by the RSPCA, was found at Cheddar Reservoir last week.

The charity suspects he may have been stolen, as he was found in such a good condition.

Inspector Hayley Lawrence said: “There doesn’t seem to be any underlying reason why anyone would have got rid of the dog.

“It is really strange. There doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with him and he was wearing a harness and flexi lead.

“I have contacted the dog wardens in Gloucestershire, Taunton and Yeovil, but no one seems to have any reports of a dog being lost or stolen.

“It is a really unusual set of circumstances.”

George has been passed on to the RSPCA centre in Brent Knoll.

The RSPCA is appealing for information to find out who the dog may belong to.

Anyone with details should call 03001 234999 and ask for Inspector Lawrence, with the service number 345.
