AN EARLY-MORNING fire in Weston High Street has left 11 properties without power.
Shortly after 6am two crews from Weston Fire Station attended the fire outside Costa on edge of the High Street and Regent Street, which started when some electrical cabling caught light.
Power firm Western Power Distribution (WPD) were called in and have turned off power for 11 nearby properties and shops so they can fix the fault, which is expected to be resolved ‘by lunchtime’.
A spokesman for WPD said: “There was a failure with a piece of our equipment in the High Street area which we are still attending. We have to make the area safe first of all, so we have had to keep those customers offline and we hope to have everyone reconnected by lunchtime.”
An Avon Fire spokesman said: “We used a high-pressure hose reel and a CO2 and dry-powder extinguisher, before leaving at about 8am. The fire was started accidentally and has been left in the hands of Western Power.”
