Supermarket chain Co-op has announced the closure of its Highbridge store.

The shop in Southwell Crescent in the town is set to shut in the autumn.

A spokesman for the Co-op said: “I can confirm our Highbridge store will close, with the last day of trading expected to be on October 27.

“The decision to close any store is not taken lightly and the company is moving forward with a real purpose and momentum.

“While this often involves the opening of new stores, we sometimes have to make difficult decisions.

“This is in no way a reflection of the hard work and commitment of colleagues, who have now been informed.

“We would like to thank the community for their support across the years.”

Somerset member-owned retailer The Radstock Co-operative Society was set to open a new store in the town’s Morland Road this summer, but the project has since been delayed.
