An image of a planned community hub at a derelict hotel has been revealed.

YMCA Somerset Coast is in the process of transforming the Highbridge Hotel, in Huntspill Road, into a hub featuring sports facilities and 22 affordable apartments for young people.

Following a number of delays work is set to start on the building’s construction with a completion date of December 2018 set.

The charity, which bought the site in 2014, has applied to Sedgemoor District Council for planning permission to demolish the remaining parts of the structure, which was mostly destroyed during a fire in 2008.

Comments can be made on this application until July 6.

The YMCA has said it remains committed to rebuilding the front of the new facility in the same style as the 18th century hotel.
