AN APPLICATION for new eight new homes for people with learning disabilities to be built was approved this week by North Somerset Council.

The council will grant £150,000 to the developers of the block of apartments, Knightstone Housing Association, which will then lease them to the Brandon Trust.

The trust is a charity which supports people with learning disabilities and currently helps more than 200 people in Weston.

The apartments, in Stafford Place, will replace housing for those with learning difficulties currently at Gordon Road and support a further four people.

The application was approved by executive member for housing Elfan Ap Rees this week.

Steve Day, spokesman for Brandon Trust, said: “Brandon Trust is absolutely delighted that this is to go ahead.

“The new supported housing project involves eight people living in every day shared accommodation receiving regular support from us, enabling them to move on to live in the community.”
