NORTH Somerset Council's highways chief says he cannot guarantee no more houses will be built on flood plains in the district.Councillor David Pasley asked executive member for strategic planning and economic development, Councillor Elfan Ap Rees, for reassurance on the issue at a full council meeting on Tuesday night. Cllr Pasley asked: "In light of the extensive flooding across the country, can you assure members that there is little or no building of new homes in areas that could be described as potential flood plains?"Cllr Ap Rees, who is also deputy leader of the council, replied: "I cannot assure members there will be no building on flood plains."All we can do is our best by asking developers to provide suitable land drainage."I would love to ensure that no development takes place on flood land but the Government will not support us.
