ALMOST 100 homes are stood empty in the Burnham area, according to the latest statistics.

The news comes after Sedgemoor District Council announced it will be holding a discussion forum on February 22, in a bid to tackle the problem.

Burnham has 59 empty houses, while Highbridge has 28 and 11 properties in Brean are vacant.

Home owners and landlords are invited to Bridgwater House in King Square in Bridgwater to attend a Homes Discussion Forum.

The forum is an attempt to reduce the number of empty houses across Sedgemoor and regenerate and improve the appearance of communities.

The council hopes to work with other organisations to remove empty houses and replace decaying properties with refurbished homes.

Anyone interested in joining the session can contact the council's empty homes officer, Mary Chorley, on 01278 435556 or email mary.chorley@sedgemoor.gov.uk
