BUSTLING farmers' markets could soon be taking place in the centre of a North Somerset village.A feasibility study has been launched into whether Yatton is a suitable place for a market, potentially in the revamped Glebelands park or the village hall. The parish council is spearheading the project and hopes to recruit farmers who hold a monthly market in Clevedon. The study will look at where the market could be held and how it would work.Speaking at a meeting of the council, Councillor Juley Howard said: "We have discussed with stallholders and farmers who take part in the market in Clevedon about the possibility of them holding a market in Yatton."If we have enough interested people we could get a grant from the Rural Development Agency to help get it started."You do need enough people to take part to apply for the grant and a small amount of support from the parish."There are 11 stallholders interested who currently take part in Clevedon but we have not committed the parish council to having a farmers' market at this stage."When the study has come back, the next step is to set up a meeting with stallholders from Clevedon."We think Glebelands is the obvious place to hold the markets and we would like to involve the village hall and the other shopkeepers."This must not be seen as a threat. We don't want to offend the shop owners.
