WESTON Hospicecare's £40,000 extension has been completed and will be officially opened today.New rooms have been added to the hospice's in-patient unit to give family members and carers more rooms and facilities to stay at the centre and be close to their loved ones.Ten rooms have been furnished and they include a double bedroom and a sitting room. Extra fold-away beds are also available.A number of organisations and individuals helped raise cash for the project including The Axentis Michael Charitable Trust, which handed over £10,000 after a football tournament last summer.Weston Hospicecare's chief executive, Colin Sills, said: "It has become increasingly important to provide space and facilities for relatives and carers to stay at the hospice and be close to their loved ones. The recent extension has made this possible. "Axentis Michael was cared for at the hospice a few years ago before he passed away and I know members of the Michael family were acutely aware of our need for more space for relatives when they were here. We are very grateful to the trust for its donation."Trustee Kerry Michael will be cutting the ribbon to the new extension at 6pm at the hospice at Jackson Barstow House, Thornbury Road, Uphill, and everyone is welcome to go along to the grand unveiling.
