A CONCERNED Kewstoke resident says the lights from a psychiatric hospital are disturbing him so much he has had to black out his windows.Mark Templeman, of Kewstoke Road, says he can also hear patients shouting and chanting when they are in the grounds of the former Birmingham Hospital Saturday Fund (BHSF) building in Beach Road.Private company Cygnet opened the hospital in September following extensive discussions with villagers and parish councillors.Mr Templeman said: "Cygnet has installed lighting throughout the site and because we live on the hill behind the building it is bright."They are turning the lights off at 10pm and putting them back on at midnight."We have had to put blackout lining onto our curtains and even with that I can still see to walk around my bedroom with the lights out."Some of the inmates are also yelling when they are in the yard and sometimes it is disturbing."I have tried to get hold of the estates manager but he never returns my calls."I want to try and work with a new liaison group which is being set up to try and resolve any current issues and any problems that may come up in the future."I would like to sort it out before the summer when I will be sitting outside."A Cygnet Health Care spokesman said: "Although we are not aware that Mr Templeman has called us we are more than happy to meet with him at any time to discuss any problems."A liaison group of Cygnet Health Care officials, parish councillors and residents has been set up to deal with any issues about the hospital. It will meet for the first time later this month.
