WESTON General Hospital has become one of the first in the country to start upgrading its paper records into electronic files.The Grange Road site is spending hundreds of thousands of pounds of Government cash introducing the NHS Care Records Service.The new system will make it easier for doctors and nurses to find and record patient notes.Data for patients seen in the last three years, all outpatients with pending appointments and those on in-patient waiting lists has now been put onto the fledgling system. Weston is the first hospital in the south of England to make the step.Chief executive Mark Gritten said: "Weston is playing its part in this crucial step forward for the NHS, which will revolutionize the way information is used and transferred across the NHS."Our doctors and nurses will benefit hugely from access to more comprehensive, up-to-date patient information and a fast, reliable means of recording information, which will lead to greater streamlining of clinical practice.
