WESTON received a 42 per cent boost in the number of people looking at its hotels online during last week’s heatwave.

Hotel comparison site Trivago analysed searches made on its website between June 29 and July 1.

At the beginning of last week, temperatures reached as high as 30 degrees Celsius, prompting the Met Office to issue a heatwave alert.

Compared to the previous week, there was a sharp increase in the number of people looking to stay in the UK’s seaside resorts.

Weston received the third biggest spike in interest, behind Southend-on-Sea with a 64 per cent increase in searches, and Skegness with 45 per cent.

Weston was the 13th most searched for UK coastal destination on the website, with Bournemouth the most popular.

The research also found Weston has the fourth cheapest hotel rates of the seaside resorts.

The average price per night for a hotel in Weston was found to be £82.
