TWO hovercrafts were in action on Weston’s beach on Friday – but only as part of a rescue exercise.

Avon Fire and Rescue’s Griffin hovercraft was deployed as well as the Merseyside Fire and Rescue service’s new craft for the exercise, which centred on a fictional aircraft crash in the bay.

The two crafts rescued a number of people, played by firefighters and volunteers from North Somerset Council, from the beach’s tidal mud before transferring them to the care of waiting paramedic teams.
