Police officers were called this afternoon (Thursday) to sweep hundreds of nails off a bridge in Weston-super-Mare.

A member of the public called Avon and Somerset Constabulary at about 2.15pm to advise them of the hazard on Drove Road.

A police spokesman told the Mercury officers swept about 200 nails to the side of the road to prevent motorists driving over them and puncturing their cars’ tyres.
