Hundreds of thousands of pounds have been spent repairing Weston’s sea wall after decades of damage saw part of it collapse.

North Somerset Council used a £320,000 grant from the Environment Agency to repair the defences at Knightstone Island after it began to crumble last winter.
Work has also been done to repair storm damage at the ramp near the Grand Pier.
Peter Bryant, the council’s executive member for the environment, said: “The Victorian sea wall has done a marvellous job.
“It was made up of a mixture of hard core and stone, but with many years of strong currents and waves, stones were washed away, and cavities began to form which required fixing.

“A full condition survey has taken place all the way up to Birnbeck Pier to ensure no further restoration work is required in the near future.
“The stone work has been done sympathetically to the original design to integrate with the stone work. We’re delighted with the result.”
