MORE than 500 people have signed up to take part in the Grand Pier Half Marathon - the first such event to be held in Weston in 20 years.
The 13.1-mile, two-lap race will start on the pier and runners will then head to Uphill and back and up past Marine Lake to the toll road.
Applications have come from all over the country, with some from as far afield as London, Nottingham, Aylesbury and Worcester.
The event will take place on September 23.
Runners can register by going to www.freakevents.co.uk - entry costs £24.50 for non-affiliated club runners or £22.50 for affiliated club runners.
Each runner can choose to support one of seven nominated charities including the RNLI, Children’s Hospice South West and Weston Hospicecare, as well as national charities.
Race entry includes a Grand Pier half marathon T-shirt and a goody bag including a £5 ride voucher.
An overall prize of £500 will be given to the men and women’s winner, including prizes for other categories – under 21, 40 plus, 50 plus and 60 plus.
