An extension to Hutton Moor Leisure Centre in Weston-super-Mare is progressing quickly, and is set to open in September.
Hutton Moor Leisure Centre’s extension will open to the public on September 18.
The leisure centre is partway through a £2.15million development, and the steel framework of its two-storey extension is complete.
A spokesman from the centre said: “The first wall has also fallen, meaning that the old and new building are linked via an entrance in the back of the building.
“The new gym and fitness studio space is flying up, and we now have all of our amazing development plans on show in the centre.”
The new building will be home to a new 155-station gym and two fitness studios, complete with the latest strength training and cardiovascular equipment.
The new-look centre – which will include a functional training centre with monkey bars and ropes for suspension training – will offer Les Mills virtual classes to compliment its ever-growing instructor-led group fitness classes.
In addition, two of the existing outside tennis courts will be completely replaced and three new five-a-side all-weather 3G pitches with the latest sustainable cork infill.
A second leisure pool is planned for the second stage of Hutton Moor’s development.
Weston’s MP John Penrose visited the centre, which is managed by Legacy Leisure on behalf of North Somerset Council, to see how the expansion is taking shape.
Mr Penrose said: “Keeping active is important. Whether you’re someone who pounds treadmills and lifts huge weights in the gym, or simply enjoys a gentle game of tennis or football, or a dance class with your friends, this expansion of Hutton Moor means more of us can keep active by doing something they enjoy.”
Dave Somers Manager of Hutton Moor, added: “This development will be the biggest improvement since 1992 and is much needed. We are really excited to be able to provide the local community with the new facilities, which include some of the most innovative training equipment to meet current fitness trends.”
