A charity ice skating session raised hundreds of pounds for Weston Foodbank.

On November 5, more than 75 people forewent Bonfire Night festivities, taking to the rink at Icescape at the Tropicana to raise £378.50 for the Weston charity.

All entry fees went directly to the foodbank, with a minimum donation set at £5 for all skaters.

Mayor of Weston, Cllr Michael Lyall, who chose Weston Foodbank as his charity of the year shortly after taking office, was also in attendance.

He said: “I was delighted to see people having fun and at the same time helping the food bank to raise much-needed funds.

“There was a good turnout for the skating session donated to us by Icescape.’

“The central ward has been a passion of mine for 15 years.

“The best way I can help is by supporting a charity that directly assists people in the area and the foodbank does just that.”
