Ideas pitched for Tropicana redevelopment

SEVERAL would-be developers for the dilapidated Tropicana pitched their ideas to a group of community leaders on Friday.
The cross-political party of North Somerset Council councillors were given presentations on a mix of ideas for the former attraction.
The would-be developers were invited to put together schemes for the site following the collapse of Richard Nightingale’s £19million proposal.
The group will next make a recommendation on the available options to the council’s executive and the strategic planning economic development policy and scrutiny panel.
Chairman and deputy leader of the council, councillor Elfan Ap Ress, said: “It is good news that despite the current economic climate that local businesses have ideas to pitch about how the Tropicana site could be used.
“This was the opportunity for these firms to tell us informally about their thoughts for the site and there were some thought-provoking ideas.
“Once we as a group have had chance to review and think about what was presented to us, we will reconvene.
“What we are focusing on is what can be realistically done with the site in the short and longer term.”
