POLICE have released CCTV images of men wanted in connection with an unprovoked racist attack at a Weston shop.
One of the suspects is clearly seen holding a snooker cue before he enters the International Food Store in Orchard Street.
The shop owner, Dogan Turan, was injured in the attack, and told the Mercury that two men initially entered the store and verbally abused a female staff member before launching an unprovoked assault on him and his male friend.
The men used racist language towards Turkish-born Mr Turan and his employees during the incident on August 22.
They left the shop but an hour later a group of men turned up carrying weapons and smashed up items and display cabinets and assaulted Mr Turan.
He said: “They came in and started throwing stock at the girl working behind the counter.
“They pushed over a fridge with bottles of beer in it and then threw the bottles at me.
“They followed me into the staff room and attacked me with weapons and then ran away.”
Mr Turan was left with bruises on his arms and a swollen hand, and thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused to the shop. The culprits smashed up two fridges and also threw glass bottles at a flat screen TV in the staff room, which had to be written-off.
Mr Turan added: “This isn’t the kind of place where attacks happen and I was very shocked.
“I have lost customers because they were in the shop when it happened and haven’t been back since.”
Police have released CCTV footage in the hope that it may spark people’s memories of the day of the attack and help them track down the culprits.
