YOUNG actors will take to the stage this week to perform a play in memory of their 11-year-old friend.

The inspiration for Imagine came from Act One Drama Group member Mary Collard, who died of bone cancer in January.

Mary was diagnosed with the illness in June 2011 and, although she was unable to attend her drama club any more, she never lost interest.

Together with her drama teacher, Sharone Miller, Mary thought out the plot for the summer show.

The Worle Community School pupil had been a member of Act One since the age of six and had a passion for performing.

When Sharone went to visit her when she was ill, the pair would often chat and create characters that could be used in the play.

Mary, of Worlebury Hill Road in Worlebury, died on New Year’s Day knowing that Sharone would turn her plot into a script and the little girl’s last request was that the lead must be called ‘Mary’.

Imagine is being staged at Theatre in the Hut off Milton Avenue this week.

It is about a little girl’s dreams and includes characters based on Mary’s doctors, nurses and favourite football players.

Sharone said: “The play is full of Mary’s ideas.

“She knew her friends would perform it after she died as a way of remembering her.”

Mary, pictured right, loved Liverpool Football Club and travelled to Anfield to meet many of her sporting heroes before she died thanks to charity Make A Wish.

Imagine will be staged in Milton until Sunday, with evening performances at 7.30pm and matinees Saturday and Sunday at 2.30pm.

Tickets, priced £5, with proceeds to go to the theatre as would be Mary’s wish, are available from Sharone on 07989 467736.
