An investigation is underway into a serious fire at Weston St John's FC which saw firefighters work through the night.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service was called to the fire at the derelict building at the club in Coleridge Road, Weston-super-Mare, at 5.20pm yesterday (Monday).

A spokesman from the fire service said: “When crews arrived the building was well alight and the fire had spread to the roof.”

A police cordon was put in place and six crews attended the incident on the Bournville estate; three from Weston-super-Mare, one from Yatton, one from Clevedon and one from Avonmouth.

Two crews remain on the scene this morning (Tuesday), dampening down the building.
