Wedmore Parish Council has applied for a £6,000 grant to fund a community point project.

If accepted the point would be a place, either in the village hall or a separate building, where residents could go to find out who their district and county councillors are, how to contact members of parliament and which phone numbers to call for information.

Police community support officer Julia Penn has also said she would like to start a beat surgery at the community point, where she could visit the village each month so residents could voice their concerns.

The parish council has applied to the Local Area Agreement fund, set up by Sedgemoor District Council, for the money and estimate the project will cost £10,000 to set up and £3,000 to maintain each year.

If proposals for the grant money are refused, Julia will hold surgeries in the parish council meeting hall in Grants Lane.

Parish chairman John Sanderson said: Without funding the community point project wouldn't be able to go ahead, so we will be keeping our fingers crossed."
