HOSPITAL bosses in Weston have blamed a high number of injured riders at a BMX event for longer waiting times for patients.
More than one in five people who suffered fractured hips had to wait more than the target 48 hours for necessary treatment during the month of September.
The increase in waits has been put down to the British BMX Championships in Cheddar, which the hospital said put extra strain on services.
More than 800 riders took part in the popular event on the last weekend of September.
