WESTON-SUPER-MARE’S police inspector has been given an award for her outstanding customer service.

Inspector Sharon Bennett has been recognised at Avon and Somerset Constabulary’s Neighbourhood Policing Awards.

She has been named in the outstanding customer service category for Somerset.

Insp Bennett became Weston’s new inspector in November 2013, and has overseen the creation of a dispersal zone to combat antisocial behaviour in Alexandra Parade.

Temporary Chief Constable Gareth Morgan said: “A huge congratulations must go to everyone who has been nominated in this year’s awards.

“They are a testament to the hard work and commitment shown by all of our neighbourhood and response teams, police staff, specials, volunteers and cadets in Avon and Somerset.

“I am truly grateful for their continued commitment, professionalism and hard work.”

There were eight categories, with awards covering the Somerset, Bristol and North East force areas.

The overall winners in each category will be announced at an awards dinner in Congresbury on November 26.
