Weston General Hospital is investigating how one of its patients was able to remove a safety grill from a window, climb out and fall.
The incident happened at the Weston-super-Mare hospital on Sunday morning, and the Mercury understands the man was not seriously injured.
James Rimmer, chief executive at Weston Area Health NHS Trust, said: “We can confirm an incident took place where a patient removed a metal safety grill, climbed out of a window and fell. The patient is being treated and cared for after this very upsetting event.
“The family have been notified and we are keeping them fully informed.
“We took immediate action and have checked the safety restrictors on all of our windows.”
An investigation is underway, and Mr Rimmer said he cannot comment further until it is complete.
