BUDDING Picassos could have the opportunity to see their colourful designs brought to life at a Weston landmark. The Weston & Somerset Mercury has joined forces with developer Rok Plc and the town council to run a competition for people to come up with a design of their ideal garden.Rok, which is based in Ham Green, Bristol, is running a one-day challenge to bring Madeira Cove, near Knightstone Island, back to its former glory. The company, which runs several community projects in this region throughout the year, was contacted by Weston Town Centre Manager, Steve Townsend, who asked if it would consider helping to revamp the area.Around 30 volunteers from Rok, North Somerset Council and Weston Town Council, are expected to turn up to help with the mission on August 22.So far, plans include putting in a decked area, new seating, painting part of the paving which has become worn and installing a pergola. As part of the free overhaul, the company is looking for people to come forward with designs for a garden. Each winner will have their entry framed and displayed on the wall at Madeira Cove. They will also be invited to be VIP guests on the day when there is due to be a special re-opening ceremony.Charlie Scherer, area leader for Rok for this region, said: "Rok is delighted to be carrying out its next community challenge at Madeira Cove. "This is a both enjoyable and rewarding way of making a difference to the community in which we live and work and the team is looking forward to seeing all the entries to the competition and involving everyone in the challenge."Entry groups for the competition are for those aged under 10, anyone under 16 and those aged 16 and over.To enter, send your design, with your name, age, address and daytime telephone number to: Garden Competition, Weston & Somerset Mercury, 32 Waterloo Street, BS23 ILW, by July 31.
