A NEW world record for the world's largest tombola has been set - by a Portishead school. The PTA at St Peter's School organised the world's biggest tombola attempt as part of the school's annual Christmas fayre. The current world record for the biggest raffle was 4,100 prizes, but the school smashed it after collecting 4,400 items. Local police were called in to authenticate the number of prizes, with officers spending three and a half painstaking hours counting through the goodie packed boxes. The event raised £2,000, which will be spent on providing sun shelters in the school playground.Organiser Tracey Fowler said: "We were delighted to break the World Record Attempt and raise so much money for the school."The event will now be entered in the Guinness Book of Records."The fayre was opened by Woodspring MP Dr Liam Fox and his wife Jesme.
