POLICE have joined forces with a Portishead school to launch a special hotline for youngsters to report drugs issues.The Drugline initiative is being run at Gordano School and provides a dedicated and anonymous phone line which students can text and pass on information to police relating to drugs.The idea is the brainchild of Portishead police community support officer Debbie Charman, who also launched the successful 'Text the Bully' scheme.PCSO Charman said: "Drugline is a similar concept to the 'Text the Bully' scheme, which proved so popular at the school."It will provide an anonymous phone line which will enable students to pass on information to the police relating to drugs."We have arranged a telephone number for students to call."This will be advertised within the school and in their journals and the line will be monitored by myself at Portishead police station."Obviously we want to stress that this is a positive project involving the police and Gordano School working together."We do not want to suggest there is a major problem at the school, but want to reassure students and offer them the opportunity of expressing any concerns they may have"It is a case of prevention rather than cure."Gordano School headteacher Graham Silverthorne said: "I think this is such a positive idea and another example of support services for children in Portishead working together.
