IT HAS been a case of lights, camera, action at a beauty spot this week as it was transformed into a film set for a Hollywood blockbuster.Horses, extras in Elizabethan costumes and trucks filled with props could all be seen on Brean Down while filming took place for a big budget sequel to the 1998 film Elizabeth.Lord of the Rings star Cate Blanchett has been in Brean to film scenes for the movie, called Elizabeth: The Golden AgeThe film crew got together over 600 local extras for the shoot on Brean Down, which was being used to recreate scenes set at Tilbury in Essex.Working Title Films location manager Manus Home, said: "We chose Brean because it has the most fantastic views and water, which is critical."In the main we have been filming in the evening and it looks like it would have hundreds of years ago. The location is just so unique and is on such a big scale."I knew about Brean so I sent someone out in January to take pictures. We visited soon after and decided straight away that we wanted to use it."In the film, Cate Blanchett takes on the role of the former Queen of England and Clive Owen plays Elizabeth's love interest Sir Walter Raleigh. The Golden Age is being shot over 13 weeks and is expected to be on cinema screens next year.Burnham councillor Peter Clayton had an insider's view when he spent the day on set as an extra. He was one of Queen Elizabeth's soldiers and was dressed in full costume.He said: "They filmed us marching up the hill and then congregating for Elizabeth's speech. "It was tough being on set from 12noon-9pm for what I expect will be a scene that is only a couple of minutes long. But I'm looking forward to seeing the film next year and seeing myself on screen.
