Jack on a roll after double cancer ordeal

THE past 12 months have been a whirlwind for Jack Thomas as he has beaten cancer twice and finally realised his ambition to become a rock 'n' roll singer.
The Brent Knoll resident was given the all-clear earlier this year after suffering from bowel cancer - only to be told he had liver cancer the next day.
But having been given the all-clear again, the 67-year-old is finally realising his life-long ambition of following in the footsteps of his idols Johnny Lee Lewis and Buddy Holly by singing rock ‘n’ roll.
Having performed at the Plymouth Summer Festival in May this year and with a string of radio and TV appearances under his belt, the former pilot is looking forward to putting together a band to perform in North Somerset.
He said: “My attitude is that I’m not going to be beaten. After everything that has gone on, I didn’t want to curl up into a ball and die, I wanted to perform, and when I do it’s like being a 27-year-old trapped in a 67-year-old’s body.
“I’m just starting a new series of chemotherapy treatments, which isn’t good for my voice, but through being on the radio recently I’ve managed to get a keyboard player and a guitarist so, hopefully, by Christmas time we’ll be playing.”
