A 28-YEAR-OLD Worle electrician who was introduced to modelling by chance is hoping to be crowned Mr Supernational at a hotly-contested competition in August.
Jake Smith, of Llewellyn Way, was walking though Bristol a year ago and was approached by someone asking if he would like to work for an agency.
Since then the former Worle Community School pupil has appeared in several photography magazines, taken part in a number of underwear shoots and even gone completely naked for one picture, although his back remained modestly turned to the camera.
The father-of-one, who is married to hairdresser Naomi and has a two-year-old daughter Madeleine, says he has been training for 10 years to stay in shape, but says he has had to step up his fitness regime since finding out about the finals.
He has already beaten thousands of other models to make the ultimate round of the competition and be crowned Mr Supernational South West 2011, but is running a mile every night and eating as healthily as possible to try and get the edge over other contestants.
He said: “This is the first final I have reached, but I’ll give it my best shot.
“I’ll be confident, but I’m not easily embarrassed.”
Jake, who has lived in Worle his entire life, works for Principal Electrical in Milton Road.
He has mostly been working in London since being discovered last year.
He added: “I enjoy modelling and it’s well paid.
“Last year I didn’t make the finals because I have a number of tattoos.
“But I think this time the organisers realised a lot of role models have them, like David Beckham.”
