THE man jailed for the murder of Jill Dando has been given a second chance to appeal against his conviction
THE man jailed for the murder of Jill Dando has been given a second chance to appeal against his conviction. The Criminal Cases Review Commission has said it will refer the case against Barry George back to the Court of Appeal in London.George was convicted and sentenced to life back in 2001 for the murder of the Weston-born television presenter. The commission says too much weight has been placed on forensic evidence concerning a speck of firearms residue in the trial.George has always denied the murder and in 2002 he took his case to the Court of Appeal for the first time and lost.At his trial he was found guilty after the jury heard that forensic scientists had found a speck of firearms residue on him from the gun that had been used to kill Miss Dando.A date has yet to be fixed for the appeal.
