THE brother of Jill Dando will unveil a plaque to commemorate the opening of a new Weston café/bar which has been named in her honour.

Weston Town Council is hosting an event tomorrow (Fri) to celebrate the completion of refurbishment works at The Blakehay theatre in Wadham Street.

The revamp, which has cost £200,000, includes improvements to the foyer, box office, toilets and disabled facilities.

The theatre’s lower studio has been completely refurbished and has been named in memory of Weston’s favourite daughter Jill.

Town mayor Councillor Phil Judd will perform the official reopening ceremony and will be joined by Jill’s brother Nigel.

The Jill Dando café/bar features 10 pictures of the TV presenter representing different stages of her life, donated by the Mercury and displayed on photo blocks funded by the town council.

Guests and hirers of the theatre will be entertained by the RAFA Concert Band and Stagecoach group in an hour long concert.

A spokesman said due to unforeseen circumstances the open day guided tours on Saturday have been cancelled but will be arranged for the near future.
