THE police officer suspended over allegations of having an affair with former Home Secretary Alan Johnson’s wife grew up in Weston.

PC Paul Rice, who as a member of the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Protection unit was bodyguard to the former Labour frontbencher, attended Locking Primary School.

The 45-year-old, whose parents still live in the town, was suspended following accusations that he had had an affair with Mr Johnson’s wife, Laura.

Mr Johnson resigned as Labour leader Ed Miliband’s Shadow Chancellor on Thursday, and PC Rice, who is separated from his wife Michelle, is now facing the sack from the unit, which provides protection for leading politicians.

His parents, David, aged 71, and Patricia, aged 66, still live in the town where he grew up.
