THE number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA) in North Somerset has risen slightly over the past 12 months.

The figures for June 2010 and 2011, released by the Department of Work and Pensions, showed that the number of claimants rose by 15, from 2,721 to 2,736.

They are in line with a national rise in the number of people claiming JSA, although nationwide unemployment has dropped over the past 12 months.

In contrast, the number of claimants across Somerset dropped, with 6,695 people claiming it in June 2010 in comparison to 6,594 last month.
