GARDENING and DIY enthusiasts in Weston are being urged to securely lock up their tools and machinery.

Police are encouraging people to look at how they secure their possessions in sheds and garages.

The call follows a spate of theft from both locked and unlocked garages and sheds where cycles, tools and even motorbikes have been taken.

Since the end of October there have been around 25 reported break-ins. The main incidents have been in the Mead Vale area but they have also been reported in the Bournville and Oldmixon estates.

Community safety inspector Barbara Davidson said: "Garages can be secured by installing good quality locks to a standard that has been attack-tested by the Master Locksmith's Asociation."

Owners are advised to log on to www.soldsecure.com, which recommends various security products.
