THE King Kong sand sculpture on Weston seafront will be glaring at passers-by until the end of the summer holidays thanks to a dedicated security guard.Although the giant ape swatted fighter planes like they were flies on film, the sand version on the Beach Lawns was a pushover for vandals who wrecked it late one night.But Kong has risen again thanks to Dutch sculptor Jaap Tichler and is now under the watchful eye of a security guard, protection which is being paid for by donations from passers-by.The £600 it cost to bring Jaap back to the UK has also been paid for through donations. He was helped by the owners of The Seaton Hotel and Saxonia Guest House who provided him with free accommodation.The new-look Kong is giving onlookers the thumbs-up this time round, a change from the original sculpture which was made to reflect his triumph over the forces of darkness.
