Knitting for forces veterans

KNITTING and the armed forces seem an unlikely combination but they have forged a vital alliance at on one Weston centre.
Volunteers have given up their time to support the Blind Veterans UK charity through sponsorship, by knitting patches at the Carlton Centre, in Carlton Street.
The initiative, which is being replicated across the West Country, will ultimately see a giant quilt created and placed over a tank.
Knitter Bob Mason, aged 63, said “This was the first time I’d ever tried knitting, but it won’t be the last.
“I served in the 1st Battalion, the Light Infantry, so when the centre suggested knitting for veterans, it sounded like something I’d like to try.”
