A LADIES football team could be kicked into touch for good unless new players are found.Portishead AFC Ladies, which play in the Gloucestershire County Women's League, say unless more sportswomen join up, the team will have to fold. The team is currently down to just five players and is now appealing for other women in the town to join them on the pitch.Portishead Ladies AFC secretary Gina Gingell said: "The team has played in the Gloucestershire league for three years and if it wants to again, it has to register by July."If we don't get enough players to sign up, it will mean the team will have to fold and that would be a real shame."The team used to have players from Bristol University, but many have now moved on after completing their coursesMrs Gingell said: "Ideally we need 15 players for the team."There are lots of girls playing football in the town but they are about 14-years-old and our players have to be 16 plus."Even if they did want to join us, it would be at least a couple of years before they could do so."Unless more people come forward, we are doomed."The team train on Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm at the football ground at Bristol Road. The team is also looking for a manager.Anyone who wants to get involved can call Mrs Gingell on 01275 818062 or email her at Ginagingell@aol.com
