AN UPHILL school has been granted permission to put up a glasshouse in its grounds so it can offer pupils lessons in horticulture.Westhaven School, in Ellesmere Road, has joined forces with Worle Community School to develop a centre for horticulture.Pupils from both schools will be able to grow a wide variety of plants and lessons will also be opened up to Weston College students later down the line.Westhaven School will also be knocking down a 35-year-old temporary classroom on the site to replace it with a more modern temporary building.Headteacher Jenny Moss said: "The temporary classroom has been there for 35 years when it was built to last for 10 years so it's well past its sell-by date. We want to put a new one up in line with 21st century education."We are very excited about the horticultural project, it's been a long time coming. It will mean young people in Weston will have access to horticultural classes closer than Cannington."Members of the West Area Committee approved the application on December 14. The school will be fund-raising for the new glasshouse next year.
