Lib Dems announce by-election candidate

THE Liberal Democrats have selected a candidate to fight a Weston Town Council by-election.

THE Liberal Democrats have selected a candidate to fight a Weston Town Council by-election.

Robert Payne will contest the town's Summer Lane ward after Mick Harley stood down as a member due to ill health.

Mr Payne was previously on the council for four years and believes his experience will benefit the area.

He said: "I am delighted to have been chosen as the candidate for this ward, and I am determined to continue to work towards safer streets and good facilities for the residents here."

He has been campaigning alongside South Worle councillors Chris Howell and Edward Keating for improvements to M5 junction 21.

He added: "Like many other people who live in this area, I have to commute out of Weston to go to work, facing the misery of this inadequate junction. It is essential that the council and the Highways Agency get together to sort it out."
