A LIBRARY in Weston has received an £800,000 cash boost to improve its facilities.

The money from the Big Lottery Fund will be used to create a community library at the For All Healthy Living Centre, in Lonsdale Avenue on the Bournville estate.

A bid for the money was submitted by North Somerset Council in March and its success was announced on October 30.

The scheme aims to expand current facilities by working with Weston's central library and the mobile service.

By providing the service it is hoped employment opportunities for those living in Weston's South Ward will increase.

A consultation on the project will soon be set up to find out what residents would like to see in the new facility.

Details of how residents can put their views forward will be confirmed in the near future.

Healthy Living Centre development manager Mark Graham said: "Staff at the centre were delighted to find out we had been granted the money and now it's time to start work on the project.

"One of the options is to build an extension in the garden in the middle of the centre to create more space.

"However, final decisions will not be made until the consultation has been carried out.

"After that we will still need to be put in a planning application, meaning the new service may not be up and running for another 18 months.
