A COMMUNITY hall in Portishead is getting a facelift, thanks to a team from Avon and Somerset Probation Service.

Offenders from the district, who have been sentenced to carry out unpaid work in the community, have given the building in Newhaven Road a lick of paint to cover up some graffiti on the outside walls.

The team has also painted the inside of the hall and tidied up the garden.

Hall administrator, Rod Morley, said: "I think it's great to see people who have crossed the line in some way, helping to put things right.

"We're really pleased with what they've done and all we had to do was supply the materials."

The hall is used by a number of community groups and residents are looking forward to their using their newly repainted hall.

The probation service carries out projects across the whole of North Somerset and any group or charity needing help with painting, decorating or gardening can call 01934 528618.
