YOUNGSTERS and residents in Hutton say they are shocked at the theft of a valuable piece of kit designed to save lives.

A life belt at the recently-opened Phippen Park, which is visited by pupils from Hutton Primary School was stolen at the weekend.

And the senseless theft has enraged Hutton Parish Council John Cole and John Coote, who coordinates school visits to the park.

Councillor Cole said: “This piece of kit is designed to help anybody who may get into trouble in the park’s pond. What value would it have to anyone else? It will serve no real purpose to those who took it, but it could potentially endanger life.”

If anyone has information about the theft, which is thought to have taken place on Sunday, call the police on 101.
